Impresario - FAQs

Impresario is a simple, yet powerful Lotus Notes based task manager. Impresario provides an easy way to manage your projects and tasks so that you have accountability, notifications and deadlines for tasks.

Question

If I have been using the trial version and purchase the product, how do I install without losing data from my trial version?

Answer

(NOTE: Also, see the issue below about R5 upgrading of hidden design)
You should create a template from the Impresario database and replace the design of your trial version with the purchased version (assuming the purchased version is newer than the trial). If you buy the standard source version and it is the same version as the trial version, you should simply follow the procedures for registering. You should backup your current version just in case when you do any major upgrade of the design just as a matter of good policy. These same steps apply for upgrading your design with a new version.

Step 1: Create a template or open the existing template

Open the new Impresario database in Notes. Just close it after you open it without creating a configuration document. Then, create a new copy (File-Database-New Copy) and make the filename "Impresario.ntf". Give it a title of something that will make it easy to find in your template list later.

Step 2: Replace the design of your existing Impresario database

Find the Impresario database on your workspace or open it (File-Database-Open). Right click and choose "Database - Replace Design". Choose the template you created above from the list of templates and click the "Replace" button.

Step 3: Sign the database

Assuming you are an administrator, you should sign the newly updated database with a company signer so that you do not get ECL alerts about whether you trust LavaTech. If you are not an administrator, ask your administrator to perform this step for you. They should be familiar with the process.

Step 4: Change the database title

Your database title is probably something like Impresario v Trial Version. Choose File-Database Properties to change the title

Question

I have the standard version of Impresario. I detached the new version of the Impresario database to my desktop, opened it, and saved as an NTF file. I then tried to Replace design against both my server and local replica, but don't see any changes. What have I done wrong?

Answer

Apparently, there is a bug in Lotus Notes R5 regarding template replacement of hidden designs. The bottom line is that you must first replace your design with a blank template prior to replacing the design with the new Impresario template. For your convenience, we are providing a blank template here because a new database has a few design elements marked to prohibit a design replace/refresh which are turned off in this template. So, detach this to your local Notes\Data directory and replace your design with it and then replace your design with the new Impresario template. It's probably a good idea to backup the production version first before doing this in the interest of being prudent.

Question

Is there a way to assign multiple people to the same task or subtask?

Answer

Yes, in version 1.50. We have added this feature.

Question

Can you add a task to an existing project template?

Answer

Yes, you can. In fact, in version 1.51+, you are now able to build an entire template including tasks and subtasks from scratch.

Question

Can we use this software to produce Gantt Charts ???

Answer

There is an export to MS project feature built into it which can give you the gantt charts you need.

Question

If we are not running Lotus Notes, can we install Impresario?

Answer

Not at the moment, it runs on Domino, but we are working on the version to work on the web and provide a hosted solution.

Question

When all the tasks are completed, the project remain in status open. Do I have to change manually or there's a way to put the project completed when all the tasks are completed?

Answer

You have to change it manually because the people completing the tasks may not be the same as the project owner so the project may not be completed until the owner changes it to completed.

Question

My toolbar didn't appear after running Actions\Install\Smarticon to import an email into a task

Answer

You might have to restart Notes. If that doesn't work, try right clicking on your toolbar background and enabling/disabling the toolbar named "Impresario" a couple of times until you see it. If you need to, go to File\Preferences\Toolbar Preferences and delete the Impresario toolbar, then repeat the installation from Impresario Actions menu.
